I made a sketchblog! It's on tumblr at yookyungdraws.tumblr.com. I'm thinking of using it to post doodles of mine. I've been wanting to do this for a while to motivate myself to draw constantly! Check it out if you are into that kind of thing. Sorry blogspot but this little piggy is foreseeing some neglectful behaviour in the coming months ...

K E R I
Kinetic Exercise and Running Intelligence from mrdavidhuynh on Vimeo.
Hey people! Check out the video my partner David and I created for our fourth year speculative design class. The assignment called for the creation of a design fiction that explored how shared activities might be in the near future. We chose to focus on the shared experience of jogging with friends - dubbing the program RunNet.
RunNet is controlled by an artificial intelligence named KERI (Kinetic Exercise Running Intelligence) that connects geographically distant friends to exercise together. KERI imports a hologram of the friend into the user’s view so only the user of the application can see their friend. The user can speak with and see their friend in real time, since they are running at the same time in two different places. The running form of the friend in Korea, for example, is mapped onto the Vancouver user’s path and vice versa. It appears to each user that they are running alongside one another, when in fact the paths of the two joggers may be very different. Both users’ speed, however, are represented accurately so friends may race and so users still have to keep up with their friends.
In the future world of our design fiction, mobile phones have evolved into integrated lifestyle devices that the user wears in their eyes throughout the day as digital contact lenses. Interfaces are projected onto the user’s vision and are controlled primarily by voice but also by gestural actions. Many everyday activities have become digitized or gamified. Meanwhile, society’s obsession with physical beauty and fitness has escalated. There have been advancements in appearance-altering technology such as the creation of over-the-counter Botox oral supplements. Botox and other such drugs appear regularly in everyday foods in the same way that vitamins do in food items today. The huge global corporations of 2013 have grown even larger to form super-companies like Escorp that produce anything and everything and own many smaller companies.
It's a scary world we have designed for... but we were encouraged to not only think of the benefits of the technology but also the negative implications. This was a really fun project and features my very own sister as a supporting act (shh, don't tell her I posted this video on here).

sausages.
For my publishing class we are redesigning cookbooks! I chose a sausage cookbook (much to the amusement of my friends in my class). The most enjoyable part for me is playing with title and header type!

News flash: I am so very in love with drawing with a tablet that I want to cry and want to draw with it forever and ever and ever and ever ... and ever. How am I just realizing this now? I seriously feel like a whole new world just opened up to me and I'm really excited!
I drew a thing to say goodbye to my mouse and hello to tablet.

Valentine's day
This Valentine's, I bought a pack of Matt's favourite drink, Fentiman's Ginger Beer to rewrap as 'Extremely Potent Love Potion' complete with a list of 'Immediate Effects' ranging from 'butterflies in the stomach' to 'mild burning sensation when urinating.' :)
When designing the label I was inspired by vintage Brasso and Shinola Floor Wax labels we saw together at the Museum of Vancouver's historic Vancouver exhibition recently.
He really liked my gift! Mission accomplished!

Hehe. Gifs are fun.
